Lawyers for John Sampson say the ex-state senator deserves a sentencing break — because he’s not as bad as Dean Skelos.
In papers filed Thursday in Brooklyn federal court, Sampson’s attorneys claim imposing the 87-month prison term on July 20 that prosecutors want would “raise significant concerns about unwarranted disparities” — because Skelos got five years.
The government called Skelos, the ex-Senate majority leader, a “more serious” case, wrote lawyers Nathaniel Akerman and Joshua Colangelo-Bryan.
Skelos, who used his political power to benefit his son, was convicted of eight counts related to public corruption. Sampson was convicted of lying to the FBI and obstructing justice in a mortgage-fraud probe.
