This week, Governor Andrew Cuomo vetoed 128 Legislative Member items totaling $640,000. The nonprofits feeling the wrath of Cuomo’s veto pen included the Stick Ball Hall of Fame, the Association des Senegalais, the King of Kings Foundation, food pantries, youth organizations, libraries, veterans’ groups, and nature preserves.
Cuomo claimed that the items were new member-item appropriations –which he disapproves– not reappropriations as characterized by the Legislature. And according to SOP’s Liz Benjamin, Gov. Cuomo doesn’t hate all pork – just the Senate Democratic kind. Legislators did not react well to Cuomo’s vetoes.
