For those who believed former NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani was a proto-fascist, his latest announced endeavor would seem to confirm that view.
The NY Daily News reported,
Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani says he could become an adviser to Serbian nationalists who were once allied with the late autocrat Slobodan Milosevic if they win an election race for the capital.
Giuliani said Friday that he, and his consulting company, will be advising the Serbian Progressive Party officials, if they win power in Belgrade after May 6 elections. The party is challenging the ruling pro-EU coalition at the polls.
Under Slobodan Milosevic’s leadership a genocidal campaign of ethnic cleansing was carried out against Bosnian Muslims and Croats. As Mayor of New York, Giuliani supported US efforts to end the genocide, including the NATO bombing of Belgrade, the capital of Serbia.
The Serbian Progressive Party is a right-wing group that broke away from the Radical Party because it wasn’t radical enough. The SPP (or SNP its Serbia initials) is a revanchist party that seeks to preserve Serbia’s territorial integrity as well as protect the Serbian Diaspora (language not unlike Hilter’s nationalist party). The original Serbian Progressive Party was a liberal left political organization that dissolved prior to World War I.
Right-wing European political parties do not care for the democratic strictures of the European Union. While the SNP has not called for limiting immigration or the rights of national minorities, it’s nonetheless interesting that Giuliani has cast his lot with this right-wing political party. Stay tuned.
