Yesterday, my former Assembly colleague, Teresa Sayward, who represents a rural North Country district in upstate, announced her retirement. In an interview with Liz Benjamin on Capital Tonight, she discussed her support for term limits, gay marriage, and the state of the national Republican Party.
When asked about the current field of GOP presidential candidates, she said,

“I do not have a favorite in the presidential race, if I had to vote today, I’d vote for Obama. Absolutely…Because I really, truly think that the candidates that are out there today for the Republican side would take women back decades.”

This bombshell statement tells us exactly where the Republican Party stands among women, Republican, Democrat and Independent. Added to former Governor George Pataki’s flaccid endorsement of frontrunner Mitt Romney, it appears that the Republicans are in serious trouble.
