And then there was one. A third ‘Amigo’ has resigned his senate seat. In a Manhattan federal court, former state senator Carl Kruger tearfully pleaded guilty to four counts of bribery.
In case Kruger’s guilty plea has you feeling nostalgic about the State Senate’s rebel Four Amigos (circa 2009), Gannett News Politics on the Hudson blog had the same thought.
They formed just about three years ago when the Senate Democrats won the Senate majority, and they billed themselves the four “amigos”—an independent force in the new Democratic conference.
But now the amigos are defunct—and a second may soon be leaving the Senate amid criminal convictions.
Sen. Carl Kruger, D-Brooklyn, today is expected to plead guilty to federal charges in connection with $1 million he illegally received in payments in a bribery scheme. If he takes a plea deal, he’ll have to resign his Senate seat because a felony conviction requires leaving office.

Also, the DN’s Juan Gonzalez waxes nostalgic: “State Sen. Ruben Diaz Sr., the last of the Four Amigos, says his colleagues were targeted for being independent and were criticized unfairly, unlike the Independent Democratic Conference,” writes Gonzalez:
