Romney: Im not concerned about the very poor.

Mitt Romney

WASHINGTON (AP) — Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney said Wednesday that he’s “not concerned about the very poor” because they have an “ample safety net” and he’s focused instead on relieving the suffering of middle-class people hit hard by the bad economy.

“I’m not concerned about the very poor.” he said Wednesday. “We have a safety net there. If it needs repair, I’ll fix it. I’m not concerned about the very rich. They’re doing just fine. I’m concerned about the very heart of America, the 90-95 percent of Americans who right now are struggling.”

I think Mitt just stepped in it and he won’t be able to wipe it off his boat shoes. His remarks are highly insensitive to millions of Americans. Mitt must recognize that the 90-95% of struggling Americans include the “very poor” who want solid employment in order to rise above subsistence living.
The economic crisis that he and his corporate raider cronies helped to produce have thrown lower middle class families into poverty. He claims to want to assist struggling middle class Americans but he says that the mortgage crisis should be allowed to play itself out and that concerns about rising income inequality is simply based on “envy.”
Each day reveals more and more of Mr. Romney’s core values. He possesses changeable political beliefs, policies and positions. But his core values deify capital accretion and scorn the less fortunate. Those values are neither American nor christian.
In my book, Mitt Romney is unfit to lead our nation.
