The Times reports that a Brooklyn federal judge,citing lawmakers’ “current state of inaction” in redrawing New York’s political map, recommended on Monday that the state’s redistricting process be turned over to a court-appointed special master.
Judge Irrizary claimed in her ruling that the State Legislature is stalled. She cited in her ruling that in 1992 and 2002, it took court intervention to spur the Legislature to act.
Currently, LATFOR, the legislative task force charged with redistricting, is holding public hearings on proposed new assembly and senate districts. A new congressional plan has yet to be unveiled. A LATFOR source said the plan would be released during the Presidents Week break (February 20-24).
