CBS News carries this story about the impact of a recent court decision sustaining NYC’s ending of it’s Advantage housing subsidy program for formerly homeless families. As a result, thousands of families who can no longer afford their apartments may flood city DHS shelters.
I first wrote about this happening last Fall in my NY Post OpEd, “Why NYC’s Homeless Policies are a Mess.” The city is now seeking to screen individuals and families that be able to find temporary shelter elsewhere with family and friends. This new policy is also being litigated in state court.
What will be the effect of ending Advantage now that the city is screening which individuals and families get shelter emergency shelter services? Leave your comment below.
I worry about our Veterans…….. it is the President; Secretary of Department
of Veterans Affairs and the VA with a statement that said they want to end
homelessness but this will be a big setback. What are veterans with this problem
going to do? Hope this does not cause an avalanche of problems for Veterans…
when they be homeless again? Helene Van Clief
