Today’s DN editorial said that the city Board of Elections has to end its foolish method of counting votes.
For some still unclear reason, the BOE requires its poll workers to cut precinct results into strips and hand write on a separate tally to give to NYPD election officers. As the DN points out, the poll workers need only hand the flash drive and voting machine generated tally to the NYPD officer for transportation to the borough board. That’s the method employed to great and timely success by the Nassau County BOE.
Somehow, the city BOE’s unnecessary procedure is a bow to concern that election results could be manipulated. Instead, they prefer being considered a laughingstock.
