The Daily News reports that city carnival operators are under federal bribery investigation. Allegedly, a number of elected officials across the city are under suspicion.
Lawrence Carr Amusements appears at the center of the probe. The Daily News writes, “When he was arrested in August, the FBI singled out campaign checks totaling $5,000 that Carr wrote in 2006 to an unnamed elected official, as well as a $5,000 check to a not-for-profit organization the official controlled. The feds characterized the payments as attempted bribes.”
Oddly, Carr’s lawyer asserts that carnival operators cannot operate without making payoffs.
State and city ecords show that since 2003, Carr and his relatives donated $27,500 to 15 New York politicians. Stay tuned.
