The Riverdale Press reports, …
Benjamin for congress?
Though he stopped by to talk about abstinence, we couldn’t help but ask
former Assemblyman Michael Benjamin about rumblings that he may make a
run for congress in 2012. Would he run against Rep. Eliot Engel if Mr.
Engel’s district lines changed?
He replied that he was very comfortable in his non-political life at
the moment and that nothing was official.
He said he thought Mr. Engel was doing a good job, but then stopped
himself, and said, “I think the delegation could do more to rectify the
inequalities in our borough.”
Recently released Census stats show “appalling” levels of poverty in
the Bronx, he said, and more could be done to combat that.
OK. Then how about a run against Jose Serrano?
“That’s a possibility, too,” he said, adding again that for now, he’s
comfortable where he is.
I hope Mike can be persuaded to change his mind. Engel and Serrano have been in Congress for many years and although I cannot fault them overal,I think that Mike would bring more courage and energy to the NY delegation. The Bronx is still one of the pooret, sickest and lowest funded countys in the entire country. High unemployment, childhood asmatha rates and poorly funded and underperforming schools have become the norml aybe we need a change?
Michael,
You maybe comfortable in your present status, but your community needs you more. We the people of the Bronx, need proper representation in Congress, regardless of what congressional district you decide to run in. We will be there to support your choice of office. You have done well in the State Assembly, now it’s your time, and ours to be represented in the United States Congress.
I personally, wish you well in all of your endeavors.
