ALBANY — State Assemblyman William F. Boyland Jr., a Brooklyn Democrat who is under federal indictment for bribery, falsified state travel forms to collect more than $67,000 in lodging, food and mileage reimbursements that he was not entitled to receive, according to a state comptroller’s report that has not been made public.
The state audit examined Boyland’s legislative expense reports for a five-year period beginning in January 2007, and found he filed questionable claims on 609 of the 975 days that he submitted for travel reimbursement.
The comptroller’s review was prompted by a request from Albany County District Attorney David Soares after a federal criminal complaint filed against Boyland in November 2011 alleged Boyland was arranging bribes with undercover FBI agents in Manhattan and Atlantic City when he claimed to be in Albany on state business.
Soares’ office has not yet taken action against Boyland, and the state comptroller’s office has declined to say why they will not make the report public. The Albany County district attorney has jurisdiction over the matter because legislative reimbursement forms are filed in Albany.
