Buffalo-area Assemblywoman Angela Wozniak is scheduled to hold a fundraiser for her re-election campaign in Albany Wednesday — a week after being sanctioned for retaliating against a staffer with whom she had an affair.
The $250-per-person cocktail reception is scheduled at a private social club close to the Capitol.
As of Friday afternoon, the event was still on despite some calls on her to resign or at least not seek re-election after the Assembly Ethics Committee found that she engaged in an inappropriate relationship with her staffer and then retaliated against him when the affair ended. Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie sanctioned the 29-year-old first-term lawmaker, who is married with a young son.
Citizens Union Executive Director Dick Dadey called on Wozniak to cancel her event, saying the “timing is just too weird.”
“It’s a prime example of the different world in which Albany exists,” Dadey said.
Neither Wozniak nor her lawyer returned calls for comment.
