Celeste Katz over at the Daily Politics blog posted the US DOJ’s official letter pre-clearing the State Assembly’s redistricting plan. The DOJ had until May 27th to render its decision.
Today’s letter is the final administrative hurdle to elections this year. Favors v. Cuomo is still underway but the three-judge panel ruled earlier this week that the case will not hinder upcoming elections.
Said Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver in a statement, “This action validates the Assembly’s efforts to craft fair and responsible districts based on the input from many individuals and organizations at two dozen hearings held across the state over the past year.”
As [Katz] noted here, a federal court this week issued a brawl-ending redistricting ruling… For now.
