In a letter dated June 14, Bronx BP Diaz warned of danger posed by large gatherings of dirt bikers on roads and in nabes. Now one man is paralyzed and in a coma, while another was lucky to survive a severe beating.

gulp. My neighborhood (Harlem) is full of the dirt bikers. They live in area and have no place to go. A local, Ishea Iskou has been trying to find place for them. Apparently they used to have a place on Roosevelt Is that closed to them. OTOH, it is my understanding the bikers who were involved in the incident you referred to was the result of out of town street bikers.
I once approached street officers about some dangerous riders I witnessed. I asked them if they saw what I saw–helmet-less motor bikers running the lights and sidewalks. They said they did but couldn’t do anything about it “because once they chased one down and he died in a crash. Now we have to wait until one of them kill someone else.” I thought they were kidding, but they confirmed that this was straight from the precinct instructions. Were they kidding? I rode off on my regular bicycle shaking my taxpayer head, and they seemed in sympathy with my concern, but genuinely unable to do anything about my dissatisfaction.
I am happy to inform you that dirt bikers were not a part of this ride. The bikers were motor cycle riders
Facts
You are absolutely right. And I apologize for lumping dirt bike and motorcycle lawbreakers together.
