On Sunday, the NY Post reported that beginning September 3, the city will implement the “most restrictive pro-breast-milk program in the nation” intended to encourage more new mothers to breast-feed.
Under the city Health Department’s voluntary Latch On NYC initiative, 27 of the city’s 40 hospitals have also agreed to give up swag bags sporting formula-company logos, toss out formula-branded tchotchkes like lanyards and mugs, and document a medical reason for every bottle that a newborn receives. Readers of this blog will recall that I commented on the then-pending program last April (Hands Off Mom’s Breasts).
Now that they’ve gotten their grasping hands on our cigarettes, salts, and trans fats, they want to reach out and touch the breasts of new mothers. Bloomberg wants city hospitals to encourage more breast-feeding because it may reduce the risks of childhood obesity.
We are on the road from “nanny-state” to full-blown cradle to grave Bloombergism.
There’s no doubt that breast milk is natural and has greater health benefits than infant formula. New mothers should be educated during their pregnancy about the nutritional benefits involved.
Those mothers with poor health or lactation issues shouldn’t be made to feel inferior if they are medically unable to breastfeed. Women deserve the right to choose at all times.
Nanny McBloomberg should acknowledge that.

So this is what each and every new mom -to- be should do; after consulting the list of which hospitals are participating in this idiotic proposal they should then BOYCOTT those hospitals.
Let’s see how long those hospitals keep the most idiotic plan to come out of Bloomberg’s brain and mouth.
