The conviction of disgraced former state Sen. Pedro Espada reminded me of the closing scene of “White Heat” —when James Cagney, standing atop a fiery tower, shouts,“Made it, Ma! Top of the world!”
In a warped sense, Espada had made it to the top,if only to set the state Senate afire. Few who knew him could applaud his pyrotechnic high-wire act.

Do you believe Pedro Espada received ‘Blind Justice’?
Very insightful story about Pedro Espada and his conviction. I take exception to the part that Espada was not singled out for prosecution. He was. Andrew Cuomo and the Democratic establishment were out to get him as they were out to get Senator Monserrate and Senator Kruger. Unfortunately for them and the people they purported to serve these elected officials were doing things that happen to be against Federal Law.
Exception noted. Do you think that, in the interest of fairness, investigative bodies should be allowed to conduct integrity tests in order to undercover wrongdoing by public officials? I believe the FBI’s Public Integrity Unit reviews public documents for leads into possible criminal misconduct by public officials. It may be worth looking into. Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts.
Right on target. You see, we do agree more than we disagree. Now if more of the juries of our peers acted like they had at least half a brain in their heads, we could rid Bronx streets of all shades of criminality, regardless of color, ethnic group, religious affiliation, charitable association, education or diseducation, political power or disenfranchised, bank account of seven figures or unemployed public asistance recipient. Nothing matters but the justice due, the law and proper redress of it, respect and fairplay. Peace.
That’s the beauty of sharing one’s thoughts in a free society.
