There is nothing he can do salvage his reputation or his legislative legacy. He actions over the years have seen to that. He has no one to blame but himself and his ugly behavior.

One might muse that Sheldon (being at the center of yet another sexual scandal cover-up) should consider other employment as well. Silver now acknowledges that using government funds to settle a claim against an elected official without informing the public was wrong. He also says that he would now share all the facts, but for a confidentiality agreement he never should have signed.

Sorry John but Shelly said he was wrong for not immediately referring the matter to directly to the Ethics Committee. As you stated, it might have been a violation of the settlement to have made it public. And as you know, public funds are used to settle a variety of matters involving state officials and agents of the state (from commissioners to corrections officers). in the end, Shelly accepted the censure of Assemblyman Lopez and has revealed the facts surrounding the accusations. He is not powerless to cause Lopez’s resignation. He could make it clear to Lopez that he would not welcome his re-election, if that were to happen (your party possibly has no real challenger for November). But Shelly did nothing criminal or unethical.
