U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District Loretta Lynch announced a second superseding indictment against Assemblyman William F. Boyland, Jr. on Friday.
The charges against Boyland, who has held office in Brooklyn for 10 years, alleges that from July 2007 to September 2010, he steered public funds to a Brooklyn-based non-profit organization which redirected public money to pay for Boyland promotional materials and events.
The funds were used for T-shirts with the slogan “Team Boyland” handed out events. The new mail fraud charges Boyland faces carry a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and restitution.
